Background

In 2005, CWDCC started to work in Kampong Thnoat and Kampong Nong villages, Koun Satv commune. The project activities were to develop children and women by supporting children in hand drawing, educated on reproductive health, home care for PLHA and self-help group, cow bank, earth worm raising and food security through resource processing.

Until 2006, with support and cooperation from CWDCC and GTZ, Kampong Samaki Community Fishery was established. CWDCC and GTZ ended project activities in 2007. In October 2008, with financial support from CRS on CSPPM project, SCW selected this community as target Community-Based Organization (CBO).

The objective of the CBO is to protect, preserve, develop, use and manage fishery and environmental resources for sustainable purposes. It has management and usage rights covering 577 hectares, including mangrove forest, beach, and coastal areas, with authorization from the Fishery Administration (FiA) and Kampot provincial government. The community members live in 2 villages (Kampong Thnoat and Kampong Nong) in Koun Satv commune, Teuk Chhou district, Kampot province. The total population of the two villages is 3743 people, 759 families. 396 people (138 women) from the two villages are enrolled in the CBO.

The executive committee of 5 was elected by the community in 2005. In addition, 30 of 396 community members have been identified as active core members. The roles and responsibilities of the executive members, and community by-law had been developed.
